You'll Love These Top 10 Best Coffee Spots in Hamilton

Hamilton is known for a number of different things; from waterfalls to craft breweries and more, this burgeoning city has been putting itself on the map as a go-to destination for millennials, families and travelers alike.

And who could blame anyone for wanting to open up shop here?!

One of the best parts of living in this city, however, is the coffee. Yes, coffee. Whether you're a fiend for caffeine or simply love a good café, Hamilton has a few great spots you have to try if you're looking to scope out the city - moving here, vacationing here...you name it, and Hamilton has a coffee spot for you (trust me on this).

Here are 10 of my favourite places to stop and grab a cup of joe!

Smalls

Self-proclaimed "tiny coffee takeaway spot," Smalls coffee is located on Cannon Street, right around the corner from a variety of independently owned shops and situated next to The Burnt Tongue. My favourite item to order from Smalls is their iced coffee, which is both deliciously smooth and refreshing!

Relay

Relay are Hamilton's go-to coffee roasters and happen to make a killer cold brew and pour over coffees which you can try at their storefront on Lancing Drive or at the Hamilton Farmers Market!

Cannon Coffee Co.

If you're looking for a hip spot in the heart of Hamilton where the coffee is as good as the food (and the staff is friendly as heck), you have to stop by Cannon Coffee Co!

Redchurch Cafe + Gallery

Only in Hamilton would you find a unique coffee spot like Redchurch. Not only do they sell yummy coffee (along with smoothies and baked goods); this cafe also happens to double as a gallery - yes, a gallery - which hosts various exhibitions from a range of artists. How cool is that?!

Salty Espresso

If you had to go to one cafe in Hamilton above all others, I'd be the first to recommend you start (and stop!) with Salty Espresso. From their delicious breakfast items and unreal baked goods to the coffee and tea, Salty has everything you need to unwind and experience Hamilton. They just so happen to serve coffee and teat from 49th Parallel, one of Vancouver's most popular coffee roasters!

Mulberry Coffeehouse

Situated in an old home circa 1887, Mulberry Coffeehouse is just that - the quintessential coffeehouse right in the heart of Hamilton. From its unique display of locally-made art to its coffee, craft beer selection, mouthwatering baked goodies and late-night vibes. You could say Mulberry is everything you need in a cafe and then some!

Durand Coffee

If you drive past Durand Coffee on Charlton St, you may be unsurprised if you miss it; with its demure signage and corner location, it looks more like a home with an outdoor patio than your typical coffee shop. But you'll be tempted to turn right around and stop in for a bite or sip thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff! I like to think of Durand Coffee as that helpful neighbour always willing to lend you a cup of sugar!

Detour

Though Detour Coffee Roasters are technically located in Dundas, this charming little spot is a must-see if you're looking for a relaxed outdoor patio where you can enjoy a cup (or two!) of tasty coffee. You may just leave with one or more bags of your own roasted beans from Detour, to boot!

Saint James Espresso Bar

Saint James is probably one of the fancier spots in Hamilton to grab coffee; in fact, with its modern aesthetic and trendy atmosphere, you may even forget you're in Hamilton! But what I love about this spot is its versatile setting; they serve more than just coffee, and yet Saint James is the perfect spot to grab a cup of joe with friends and meet fashionable locals who share your passion for Hamilton.

541

541 is a hip spot in Hamilton located along Barton St where you can grab a yummy bite to eat or a coffee to go! But the truly unique aspect of this cafe is that it's run fully by volunteers! While you're there, you can donate money to purchase buttons, which people in need of food or coffee can use to grab a bite to eat. It's a neat concept which shows how much Hamiltonians truly care about this city!
